Imagine journeying deep into the heart of a jungle. Sunlight bursts through a canopy of leaves up above, with the calls of the wild leading you onward on your quest. Up ahead, you spot movement amidst the thick foliage. Watching with abated breath, you witness one of nature’s most regal creatures peer through the foliage; a white tiger. This is just one of the many experiences that you can enjoy at Bannerghatta National Park.
Easily accessible from the city via regular bus services, this expansive reserve is around 22 kilometres from Bangalore. Things to do at Bannerghatta National Park range from thrilling safaris to visiting a mini zoo, offering hours of family fun and adventure. Apart from Tuesdays, the park is open throughout the week from 9am to 5pm. The area is home to a wide range of wildlife and on your journeys, you may come across leopards, zebras, elephants, panthers and a range of bird species.
The main draw is the lion and tiger safari that lets you view these magnificent predators in their natural habitats. There is also a bear safari and an herbivore safari, which gives you a chance to see deer, wild boar, porcupine and bison.
Apart from taking a safari, you can also visit the special biological park which has a number of species, as well as a museum. Not to be missed is the Butterfly Park where you can walk along the “butterfly trail”, viewing a kaleidoscope of colours flying freely.
